How to create an ArcGIS Online account and access ESRI eTraining Resources

ESRI eTraining is a great resource for learning how to use GIS and specific ESRI software, with hundreds of courses available for free to members of the U-Mass Amherst community.  Most courses are free. Instructor-led courses are not but we do get a discount.  If you're interested in an instructor-led course, please contact jkopera@geo.umass.edu at least 2 weeks before the course date.

ArcGIS Online is a web-based GIS ecosystem that contains a multitude of useful tools for sharing data, maps, etc... Many instructors use it in their courses.  Use the following steps to create an ArcGIS Online account on U-Mass's ArcGIS Online organization and, from there, access E-training.

  1. You can access eTraining and ArcGIS Online by logging in at https://umass-amherst.maps.arcgis.com and clicking "Sign In" in the upper right-hand corner. You will be taken to the familiar UMass login screen. If you don't already have an account, one will be created for you once you sign in.
  2. To access eTraining, once you're logged in, click on your username in the upper-right corner of the screen, and click on the link to "Training" that should be in the menu.
  3. From there you can expore ESRI's eTraining resources.  You can search their catalog of trainings by selecting "Courses" in the menu bar.
  4. The U-Mass GIS Hub has a list of recommended eTrainings, in addition to other resources to help you with your GIS practice.
