When we watch a movie, are geologists heroes or villains? Do they appear only in supporting roles — their parts limited to entering an office, uttering “Drill here,” and promptly leaving the scene — or are they main characters? What demographics and backgrounds do they come from? We discuss the portrayal of geologists and scientists in public media how it has evolved over the years, as well as what it means for the Geosciences now.
