Earth Science Week!
Location:
Room 108, Morrill 3

October 14-19 is National Earth Science Week. As part of this national celebration, we are pleased and eager to invite you to help us celebrate an array of new teaching and research spaces in the Department of Geosciences at UMass Amherst. This includes the polished stone counter tops, purchased from Granite Creations (Wilbraham, MA), for our new Introductory Geology teaching laboratory in Morrill 3, Room 108. We are also proud to unveil a 470 million-year-old pillow basalt in the new Morrill courtyard, a gift from Ashfield Stone, Inc. in Shelburne Falls, completed in collaboration with Building and Grounds who moved this massive 6-ton, polished stone to campus. Please join us for the following public and open events:

  • Geosciences Room 108, Morrill 3
  •  Reception and Open house 1:30 to 3:30, Stop by!
  •  with Dedication and Thank You for the Hawley Formation Pillow Basalt Boulder at 2:00 PM
  •  We hope you will join us for the festivities and reception.

Also, in the spirit of our interdisciplinary department, at 3:30 on October 19 the Department of Geosciences will host human geographer James McCarthy, from Clark University Department of Geography, on “Political economies and ecologies of renewable energy,” in ILB Room S131. A gathering at the University Club will follow.
