10 July Summary from the UMASS team
The weather station team regrets that communication problems terminated our image and news updates from the summit. We really enjoyed sending these, but we were warned that computer hard drives are not designed for use over 10,000 feet! Many thanks to Commercial Satellite Services (phone), Solarex (solar panel), and Digital for making the updates possible!
We completed the station service and upgrade on 2 July, after 8 days. It may be hard to imagine that it took this much time, but this was due to a combination of difficult weather conditions and a decision to move the entire station a short distance laterally. The process required significant digging -- a total of roughly 14 m -- which was exhausting at that altitude.
Data from the station are now being received and processed at the UMass Climatology Lab (thanks, Frank!), and indicate that everything is working well. The new temperature profile measurements look quite interesting.
