February 1997 Images -- Sajama Weather Station
The following images were taken on the summit 7 February 1998, illustrating
~1.25 m of snow accumulation until this date in the 1997-98 wet season.
Precipitation on the Altiplano is typically low during El Nino years.
Station status: Everything appears to be in excellant condition, although
telemetry ceased in mid-December due to a transmitter glitch. Planning
is underway to service the station, and that on Illimani, in May.
The images below were kindly supplied by Carlos Escobar, who operates
a mountaineering and ecological travel business in La Paz named Nuevos
Horizontes (Fax: 591 2 315570). We have been working with Carlos since
1996, and highly recommend his services!
