Taconite Inlet Project

1. Objectives

Studies of sediment flux in the lake were designed to compliment climatological, hydrological, and snowmelt studies conducted in the watershed and to provide a link with invesigation of laminated sediments. This research atempted:

  1. to determine the processes operating in the lake responsible for the formation of laminated sediments;

  2. to quantify the annual suspended sediment flux into the lake in order to approximate the sediment contained in one couplet or varve during that year, and

  3. to understand how sediment transport and deposition in the lake reflect lake dynamics, hydrologic and climatic forcing conditions.
