The modern diatom ecology, as well as variations in the diatom assembleges preserved in the lake sediments of Lake C2, were studied. Varve thickness variations in Lake C2 were shown to reflect changing climatic conditions within the watershed (Hardy et al., 1996). This climatic signal is also recorded in the diatom assembleges preserved in the lake sediments.
