Our laboratory analyzes a variety of mollusk taxa for geochronology. Here, for example, are bivalves from northwest Alaska. Ratios from Astarte, Mya and Hiatella can be compared to the occurrence of this large, extinct Fortipecten, at right, that is only found in deposits correlative with the Pliocene Big Bendian/ Beringian II transgression.
