Studies in the Russian Koryak Mountains
FIELD EVIDENCE FOR RESTRICTED ICE EXTENT DURING THE LAST GLACIAL MAXIMUM IN
THE KORYAK MOUNTAINS, CHUKOTKA, FAR EASTERN RUSSIA

Our main mode of transportation in the Koryak
Mountains and Lake Mainitz Region: a Russian tank. This tank took us across
water, trees, tundra and to some great fishing spots!

The central Nygchekveem River valley. Note the higher
river terrace levels. Gladkoye Lake is in the foreground, bounded by lateral
moraines on either side and a small terminal moraine on the right-hand side.
These and similar moraines were the focus for moraine morphometirc
measurements, soil pedogenesis studies and sampling of erratics for
cosmogenic isotope analysis.

A glacial erratic in the northern Koryak Mountains sampled for
cosmogenic isotope analysis.
