- The El Oro Mountains and southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains of northern New Mexico are underlain by spectacular middle crustal exposures of Paleoproterozoic supracrustal rocks and migmatitic orthogneisses in the hanging wall of Laramide-age basement-cored uplifts. Reconaissance mapping and sampling in Summer 2003 established the groundwork for a future project on middle crustal flow and gneiss dome development.
