Professional Profile |
|
Teaching geosciences-geography continues as the primary professional-vocational emphasis since 1996. Over thirty-five college-university course sections in five subject areas have been successfully taught in the past decade. Teaching experience encompasses regional, cultural, and physical geography, natural disasters, and applied GIS Science and Cartography. The integration of GIS science and art into diverse curricula continues to be a major emphasis. Seven professional seminars have been facilitated including municipal assessors, library science, regional planning, natural disasters, biogeography, and regional geography. In addition, numerous guest-lectures and public talks have been delivered at UMass, WSC, UPM and other venues. PhD research and fieldwork 2004-2007 focused on modeling threats to nest habitat of the Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi). The EMCC has partially completed a Composite Biogeographic Analysis; which identified nest habitat areas of concern in the Mt. Hamiguitan range of Davao Oriental. A dissertation on the topic is scheduled for spring 2009. A two-part article co-authored by the EMCC on the analysis is publishing in the journal Banwa. As Visiting Lecturer at UPM CSM in Davao City 2006 – 2008 advanced GIS & spatial modeling and physical geology courses were developed and taught. A keynote address was delivered at the Mindanao-wide multi-sector Roundtable on Health Emergencies and Disasters, and disaster analysis-consulting for Davao City is ongoing. Extended international experiences also include archeological and historical research in Israel and Ireland. Consulting as a professional geographer continues since 2000 and projects have included publication cartography, business geography, natural disaster risk assessment, biogeography and curricula development. While continuing as a lecturer and developing online courses, professional objectives include project management specialist, GIS analyst, or geo-technical or administrative support in the public or private sector. Secondary professional objectives include educational support -teaching at the community college, secondary or middle school levels. Integration of GIS-geography into diverse curricula is a primary objective.
