Five College Petrology

Graduate study in petrology at the University of Massachusetts is enhanced far beyond what our own catalog and web site might suggest, because all geology faculty in the Five Colleges (Amherst, Hampshire & UMass in Amherst; Mount Holyoke in South Hadley, and Smith in Northampton) are graduate faculty members at UMass. They can and do serve on graduate committees, and teach graduate courses in their specialties from time to time. They also have instruments that we share, as they share ours. As an indication of the strength and vigor of this petrology group, we call attention to its informal evening meetings twice a semester, at which we and interested graduate students discuss our research and other petrologic interests.

Here is a list of the Five College Petrology faculty. One would be hard put to find a greater concentration of petrologists to stimulate one's graduate education.
