Education:

B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (1987) from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA

M.S. in Environmental Science with a focus in atmospheric science (2001) from Rutgers University, New  Brunswick, NJ.

Before UMass:
From 1988 to 1997, I was a Systems Engineer and Program Analyst for the Defense Contract Management Command.

Then from 2001 to 2009, I was a Research Meteorologist and Research Scientist at NASA Langley Research Center
in Hampton VA. While there, I conducted research analyzing the interannual variability of tropospheric ozone from
satellites. I also performed research looking at the relationship between crop yield, tropospheric ozone
(from both surface and satellite), and climate.

Here at UMass:
I serve as the Manager of the Climate System Research Center, supporting the climatological research efforts of
faculty members, post-doctoral research associates and graduate students through programming,
data analysis, and graphics. I also have responsibility for maintaining all hardware and software in the lab, as well as
being the outreach focal point for the Climate Center.

I'm also a Lecturer in the Department of Geosciences and teach the Fall Climatology course (GEO-SCI 354).

My main research interest is conducting phenological research analyzing the effect of greenhouse gases on crop yield;
as well as studying the interannual variability of the regional and global distribution of tropospheric trace gases from
space and how these distributions relate to both the prevailing meteorology and large scale climatological indices
(e.g., ENSO, NAO), and ultimately to their impacts on air quality and human health.
