Geo 101 The Earth

This course is all about the place you live.

NEWS:

  1. Geotour #15 exercise is due December 3rd

  3. In class exam #4 is Dec 10th
  4. Final exam is 8:00 am on Dec 15th
  5. Extra credit: unassigned geotours (complete by Dec 10th)

Textbooks:

  1. Essentials of Geology 3rd Ed, by Stephen Marshak.
  2. Custom Laboratory Manual by Ludman and Marshak with special chapters for our Geo101 labs. Lab manual is only available at textbook annex .  You will complete activities in this book and tear out pages to be turned in.
  3. Study space The textbook publishers have great on-line study resources.  Take advantage of the study plans, outlines.  You will occasionally be required to complete the on-line quizzes. www.wwnorton.com/studyspace/disciplines/geology.asp
  4. Geotours The publisher has developed activities using google earth to supplement the course material. Throughout the course you will complete Geotour exercises.

Field trips:

Participation on one of two all-day field trips is required. The trips are scheduled for Sun October 24th and Saturday November 6th. We leave campus at 8 am and return by 5pm.

Course grade:

Lab grade                25%

Berkshire field trip quiz counts as one afternoon lab

Lecture grade        75%

Total course grade (lab + lecture)                100%
