• Peer-to-peer sharing in the GIS lab

• Installing software from the teaching station

All machines are setup in a single Workgroup (called "GIS Lab") under the Microsoft Networking environment. The only machine configured to share any of its devices or file space to members of the GIS Lab Workgroup is the teaching station GISPC11. This machine has its floppy drive enabled and should be used as the platform for copying files from a floppy disk to any other PC in the lab. This drive may also be used to install software on the student machines.

• double click on the Network Neighborhood Icon on the desktop
• in the Network Neighborhood window that appears, double click on the machine named GISPC11
• in the window listing items setup for sharing on the teaching station, double click the floppy (A:) or zip (D:) drive icon
• drag and drop files from this window to a local folder just as if it were a local disk device

• double click on the Network Neighborhood Icon on the desktop
• in the Network Neighborhood window that appears, double click on the machine named GISPC11
• in the window listing items setup for sharing on the teaching station, right click on the floppy (A:) or zip (D:) drive icon and choose "Map Network Drive", assigning any drive letter available to the device

The remote drive will now appear under your machines "My Computer" icon just as if it were a local device. Intall the software following the instructions provided with it (i.e. run setup.exe or run the install new software control panel).
