Conceptual and Practical Background:

Each exercise is modeled by the instructor. Lecture and discussion precedes all exercises.

The exercises are fully documented; including examples and reference materials.

Objectives:

Complete the assigned exercise as written. Project relevant data substitutions may be considered (with approval).

There are five exercises, one for each ‘Learning Module’. These are the core of doing GIS, as each has a particular thematic GIS learning objective, supported by lecture discussion, hands-on guided practice, and documentation.

We will ask geographic questions, and solve geographic problems often in reflection of student interests. and  with professional relevancy.

We use local (MA) data for several exercises, supplemented by US and global datasets.

We also use tutorial data provided by ESRI ®  to demonstrate several techniques.
