Projects-papers comprise 30% of the final grade, and represent the largest single portion of the course grade. Teams of two are allowed on projects.

Objective:

· Create a regional or country natural disaster profile. Optionally, students can participate in a local mitigation planning initiative. A variety of thematic options are possible. Students may focus on a specific catastrophic event, an overall risk assessment, or a specific event type.

· The first element is an outline, preferably a graphic model of the project. This will be assessed for topic, structure and do-ability.

· Students complete a 4-6 page paper from the outline, more a technical report & brief narrative with a map annex and citations.

· Students prepare a 15 minute presentation based on the content of the outline and paper. Presentations are given to our class at the end of the semester. Students may use various  combinations of software in delivering the presentation.

·  Examine a MODEL project.

·  Data and methods used in Inquires, Study Modules, and In-class GIS Lab Sessions support completion of projects-papers.
