We will create a DRI for Davao City, Philippines. · Introduction to GIS Case Study—Philippines-Mindanao-Davao City (Pop. 1.3 million) Links We will explore the data and prepare for the lab. · We will start with the preliminary EDA done by myself and the fall 2007 students. Davao City Preliminary Risk & Vulnerability Assessment. Mapping Vulnerability in the Philippines. Overview: Risk Mapping (UNDP Algorithm) Step 1: Open ArcGIS 9.2. Step 2: Connect to the lab folder and open the base map. Step 3: Construct model (whiteboard-data exercise). MODEL Step 4: Add H maps (Flood, Landslide, Liquefaction), Hfr proxy. Step 5: Add PhExp maps (Population count in intersecting barangay) Step 6: Add Vm maps. HDI proxy, POPDEN, HHC. Step 6a: Modify POPDEN with settlements. Step 7: Cartographic Modeling-Overlay (AND) analysis. Hazard classification and ranking. We will most likely end here. We will resume this Session 6 and Session 7(each1/2 hour). Step 8: Update attribute table (barangay) with R index. Step 9: Map R (by category. Step 10: Add new medical and emergency response layer. Step 11: Build Geo-database. I will enable the data link this weekend. This will provide you with several files you can open with Arc Explorer. NOTE: While risk will decline with distance from the hazard, we will also consider the indirect effects upon adjacent and proximal areas.
EXERCISE GRADING: (Tentative) A maximum score of 100% for each exercise is 7.5% of the final grade. · 70% of the exercise grade is completing the analysis problem example. Students are provided a Geodatabase, and an example assessment task; which we work through as a team. · 30% of the exercise grade is completing the analysis problem (also an assessment task). |
