Nevado Sajama and Illimani

July 21, The Illimani weather station is installed and operational

21 July update from UMASS Climate Lab

The UMASS team successfully installed the weather station on the summit of Nevado Illimani on Thursday, July 17. The first data was transmitted that afternoon.

The data arriving at the UMASS Climate Lab looks great. The temperatures are comparable to those on Sajama. However, the winds on Illimani are considerably lighter, and the pressure is about 18 mb higher (since the station is about 300 m lower than the station on Sajama).

Carsten and Mathias descended to base camp on Friday and to LaPaz on Saturday, enjoying a shower, a good meal and a comfortable bed. They will arrive in Massachusetts tomorrow, July 22.

Hopefully, they will provide us with more striking images from their expedition.

GREAT JOB, GUYS!
